Visiting Eric

This morning, following a quick shoot at a Web client’s place of business, I drop in on Eric.  We inspect a 944 fender that is a candidate to replace the damaged left one that we have probably seen too often.  Eric thinks it is good, so we will work on this and a little headlight/fender interface issue as soon as Jason releases Baby Blue from his custody.   In the meantime, I poke around Eric’s shop to see what is (always) of interest.  Today it is a couple of 50s Chevy trucks, a Falcon Ranchero, and a quite rare, it would seem, early 1900s Overland.

Who Is Clark?

clarks-garage_snippetClark Fletcher and his Clark’s Garage website have probably made more of a contribution to the 944 community than anyone I know or have been told about.  The very first time I mentioned 944 in the company of fellow adherents I was directed to immediately visit Clark’s Garage.  This has to be the single most valuable compendium of 924/944/968 information I have come upon.   First place I turn to, even before the Pelican, et. al. forums and the factory workshop manuals.

I’m not put off for a second by its old school look & feel and visual design (I feel I can speak to this a bit as a computer professional myself who has been building websites since the early 1990s and started programming computers and doing graphic design well before that).  This is a site that proves that content is king.

Fabulous contribution and obviously a labor of love.

Thanks to Dave

Continuing my tribute to noteworthy 944-related blogs … yet another Brit, Dave, has greatly enlightened me with his splendid tutorials, all well documented, illustrated and explained.   This is an excellent go-to for any 944 owner, IMHO.  And I love his blog’s name.

A Nod to Steve

944lux_snippet

If you want to view the gold standard in how-to documentation and meticulous care to detail, you have to meet  “Steve”, a Brit with a truly exceptional 944 and exceptional blog to go along with it.

His under-the-skin “disco theme” will knock your eyes out.

I must drop him a note of appreciation.

Patina? Clearcoat It!

This weekend, at a downtown curbside car show, I spotted an example of my favored presentation as of late.  No Porsche examples, but here is a 1951 Chevy with the treatment.

Ekkehard Zimmerman and dp Motorsport

Okay, it took some Googleering on the Greater Interwebs, but I had to come with more to explain the mystery (to me) vehicle in the A Shooting Brake? post.  Seems that this was (is?) a limited production conversion of the 944  designed by one Ekkehard Zimmerman and produced by his German tuning shop, dp Motorsport.  Here is a good place to start reading about the “944 Cargo” — a fiberglass turnkey conversion mightily priced  at 18K Euros.  Find some history of dp Motorsport here and see its great Facebook page here.  And you can watch this video in the meantime:

A Shooting Brake?

Here is something passed on to me by a reader, apparently found on a Pakistani auto-oriented web site.  Look familiar?  Do you wish your 944 was like this?
