Heel and Toe, Senna-Style

Old friend and former photographic colleague Bill  brings this interesting vid to my attention.  Watch Aryton Senna pilot a NSX (I think that is what it is) in his civvies, right down to his choice of “racing” shoes.  Don’t know when this was done; obviously quite some time ago as this three-time world champion died in the mid-90s in a Formula One race.

More Euro Encounters of the Automotive Kind

Brother Dennis continues his meanderings through Spain and France.  He sends along some pics taken a few hours ago.

First, this Cadillac from the Dali Museum in Figueres, Spain:

Would Be A Nice Drive In A Porsche

Received an email from Brother Dennis today. Reported that he had just concluded an 800+ mile round trip from Barcelona to Nice in the VW Polo rental car shown below. He reported that the Polo was solid and, while not particularly powerful, acquitted itself well in handling the twisting roads of the Pyrenees and Alps, not to mention the “impossibly narrow” streets in old sections of cities and villages. Dennis also tells us that he greatly enjoyed using a manual transmission, after quite a few years of automatic-only driving.  I advised him to try the GTI version next time.  Or another member of the VW Group, like a Macan.  Hey, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the Polo come to the U.S.VW Polo

Shadows at Sunrise

Arose too early again today, still dark.  Just as well find some country roads, cemeteries and sunrises.  And toss the Blue Rascal around when the traffic is almost nonexistent.  Some fall color is starting to appear, too.

Today’s Sighting

Today, the first day for weeks that my knee injury allowed me to walk to work, what did I encounter in a crosswalk but a friendly couple in a somewhat scruffy 944, circa ’84.

Charlie sniffs out the Blue Rascal

Awoke while it was still dark this morning, so I grabbed cameras and cranked up the Blue Rascal.    All systems functioning.

Bridges and Mountains

This morning daughter Ivi and I rip through the surrounding mountains.  The day is too fine to miss wheel time and, besides, Ivi only has one more week before she leaves for her many-miles-distant final year of school.

” … the gaudiest exorbitance … “

That was Donna’s characterization, perhaps not inappropriate, in the season finale of AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire, upon first seeing Gordon’s new 1984 911 outside the Curtis-Brimmer Building on the Texas Instruments campus. This after Joe was compelled to liquidate his 944 to finance the Las Vegas Comdex stint.

Were they really almost giving them away, as Gordon says while rationalizing his new purchase to wife Donna?

Earlier screen captures, here and here.

Guess Donna had never seen Lamborghini or such …
