Over The Top Gear
Perhaps you have heard the rumors that — following the Clarkson debacle a few months back — that Top Gear, now apparently cancelled by BBC, will be revived as a Netflix series. In the meantime, here’s a 928 being abused by the crew, as displayed by The Week.

Heat Wave
Walking a couple of miles this morning, even with ice water in tow, was almost too much for this old guy. So for this afternoon’s errands, daughter Ivi and I removed the sunroof and ran the windows down. Unfortunately, my R134a conversion project is still short a new compressor (we are looking at the Griffith Kuehl system and components), so there was no working AC. It is hard to convey temperature in photographs and verbal descriptions, but here are some photographic attempts to do so, from this afternoon’s outing. Now at 10pm, we are down to about 80 degrees F.
Multi McLaren
Brother Dennis tells me that he was hiking yesterday in the Santa Monica Mountains when he came to a road where he counted at least 15 McLlarens in succession before he was able to cross, but only after a Porsche appeared.

Aimless Wandering
Rainy day so I take to wandering the streets on foot. Spot mostly non-notable vehicles, but I do get in a little panning practice. Later, accompanying my wife on a grocery shopping stint, in the rain I see two convertibles, a Saab 93 and a BMW 325 ci. These are desperate days. Back to the InterWebs …
Over the Mountains to Jason’s Shop
Arising early this morning to launch what would become a 206 mile trip through the national forest and a ski area, I drove the twisties to meet up with Jason. (Fortunately, his shop is air conditioned, and the 90+ outside temp was not an issue during our work session.) What ensued was a comprehensive inspection and test of all systems, and regular maintenance including oil and filter change, brake system flush, coolant attention, etc. No issues of consequence were discovered, and Jason says that he will vouch for the integrity of the car should my wife decide to sell it after my (potential, not planned) demise. We also put in some time driving a couple of vehicles: his own VW GTI which is seriously modded for autocross where it has been a successful competitor and his father’s former racer-now-streetable Jensen Healey with a rambunctiously built up 350 Chevy motor. On the way home, I stopped for a few moments to make some stylized portraits of the Blue Rascal. Shortly after that, I was tailed for about six miles by the state police in an ominous Charger, but they eventually passed by as I kept the speedo right at the designated 55 mph, having spotted them earlier. Btw, despite fairly aggressive driving through the mountain passes, the Blue Rascal turned in 31.685 mpg for the trip.
Electric 944 Update
Electric 944 recently posted a very informative post about experiences so far with converting a 944 to electrical power (recall our previous posts?), particularly in terms of AC vs. DC. Read about it here:

Progress
This morning Eric shot primer over the fixes so far:
- Three little dings in the hood
- Replaced both front fenders, a black one near-perfect on the left, one straightened and smoothed on the right (an earlier fitted left fender — which I used for “learning” purposes and had run for months after prep and gray primer — was removed as it was from a pre-85.5 and did not have matching brackets for the fender liner, although it otherwise fit perfectly, but now will head for Craigslist or eBay)
- A couple of small dings on the right rear flank
- Left side rocker panel crease
- Semi-major pie-sized dent on the left flank below the rear quarter window
To do:
- A slight depression in the rear roof, apparently incurred when the sunroof was assaulted during the PO era (read Background paragraph on this post)
- Right side rocker panel crease
- A tiny dimple on the underside of the bottom right rear wheel opening
And finally … prep the whole thing for repaint in the factory Copenhagen Blue (LY5B). But that is a ways off, hence, the sealed primer to protect things to allow use until the wherewithal for these latters steps is mustered.
