Dennis Hoyt Bahrain Update

Earlier tonight Dennis sent me some iPhone photos taken in the “glass tent” during the setup of his exhibit at the Bahrain Grand Prix.  As you know from a previous post, he is in that part of the globe by invitation to show his sculpture during the F1 racing event to be held starting on Friday, April 17.   He tells us that he has met with Sheikh Salman, champion Middle East Porsche GT3 racer and Porsche fan/fanatic,  is coordinating with Bernie Ecclestone’s F1 communication staff, and is scheduled to meet with the Crown Prince.  He also says that his exhibit has been written up in something called the Gulf Weekly, an important news magazine for that region.  Stay tuned!

From the Electric Porsche 944 blog, which we have previously visited, comes this story on the conversion to electric of a Porsche 914:

No further word on the development of the electric 944.

Door? Check.

Finally, after all this time, today I got around to replacing the driver side door stop/check that had annoyed me for the past couple of years.  Now the door can be opened and it stays put.  Just like new.  Funny how a small thing like this can suddenly transform the car into something that feels like a much finer machine.

Why so long?  I was unable to find the individual parts that I needed, so I lost patience and ended up replacing the entire assembly with a genuine and somewhat expensive ($70) Porsche kit.  A gift to myself on my first day of official retirement.

A 917 In The Office Parking Lot

Late yesterday, Dennis dropped by my office to show me his original 917L sculpture done in 2007  in tribute of the 1970 Le Mans racer.  It’s now flying on its way to Bahrain, where Dennis will be exhibiting at the Bahrain Grand Prix.  See previous post.  Also see this post on Dennis’ Schumacher tribute piece.

A Guards Red Morning

Just as the sun broke through when I was walking to work this morning … I meet C.J. and his Guards Red ’87.  Hopefully more time for comparing notes later.  (And properly exposed photos in better light!)

Dennis, 917L and Bahrain

Wandering over to Eric’s shop following a morning sprint with the Blue Rascal, I find Dennis.

20150228-DSCN5648-EditHe takes me into a paint booth where his latest creative expression reposes, this a two-foot or so sculpture carved in wood of his interpretation of the #3 Porsche 917L long-tail from Le Mans 1970.

Dennis tells me of his plans to be at the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix in April (some info here, and here for last year’s event), where the 917 sculpture will be presented to his host, and where he will display other sculptures.

And here is the real thing, in action at the 1970 Le Mans competition:
